This Monday we’re setting sail for Forbidden Island, a co-operative game where you and your team race to grab four ancient treasures before the ground literally disappears beneath you. Here’s the catch: the island is sinking, tile by tile, turn by turn.
Published by Gamewrite and designed by Matt Leacock, this game has been a Mensa Select Winner, and won the MTV Geek’s Top Board Game Award in 2010, but you don’t have to be a genius to learn and play!
Every round, more of the map slips underwater, flood waters rise, and the path to that last treasure gets narrower and narrower. It’s fully cooperative, so there’s no picking off your friends here, or pushing them off the edge of the world like last week’s featured game. It’s you against the island, and honestly, the island’s winning more often than you’d think.
Good communication, a little luck, and a lot of teamwork are the only things standing between your crew and a one-way trip to the bottom of the sea.
Whether you’re new to co-op games or you’ve sunk a few islands before, this one’s easy to learn and genuinely tense every single time.
