Our featured game is Smash Up is published by Alderac Entertainment Group (AEG) and designed by Paul Peterson. He’s the mind behind the cult classic Guillotine which you will likely see as a upcoming Featured Game. Since hitting tables in 2012, it’s grown into one of the most beloved card games around, with dozens of expansions and a wildly creative roster of factions.
Here’s the twist: you don’t pick a deck. You build one by grabbing two completely different factions and shuffling them together. Dinosaurs bring raw muscle. Ninjas slip in at the last second. Zombies claw their way back from the discard pile. Wizards chain spells together. Mash any two together and you’ve got a combo nobody has ever seen before, including you.
How it plays:
- Each turn, play one minion and one action
- Send your minions to fight over bases scattered across the table
- When a base gets crowded enough, it scores, and the strongest players there earn victory points
- First to 15 points win
It’s fast, a little bit mean, and full of “wait, you can DO that?” moments. It’s also easy to learn, and we’ll teach it to anyone who wants to play.
